Hubris

I am presently weighing in at exactly the same as I was before I started my nightshifts 278lb (19st 12lb). This just goes to show if you buy your "I've lost a stone treats" before you have actually lost it, life will just bite you in the butt. By that I mean I now wish I had not bought those two bottles of Cider when I did the weekly shop last thursday. Still, the chart looks nice I guess.

My diet credo.

The basics:-

My target weight for this year is 15 st 10lb - 220lb This means I need to lose 5 stone in weight. My goal is to try and lose this by December 2009 idealy in time for my sisters wedding on the 12th that will kind of be the start of the christmas season to so it would be nice to get it all sorted in time for that food fest. Once Christmas is oout of the way I may try and lose enough to then get my BMI down to 25 which will mean losing another few pounds or so.

I am on a calorie controlled diet and aim to eat between 1500 to 1800 calories per day. I will be eating most foods but my bias will be to 'wet' foods such as porridge and stews etc. I also intend to increase my exercise levels by incorporating my bicycle into my daily life. I also hope to get some other exercise equipment that I can use (sooner rather than later).

Like most fat people that have been around for a few years I have dieted before sometimes with great success sometimes less so. I think the first diet I ever tried was when I was around 13. Back in those days a meal replacement chewy brown sweet was all the rage I think they were called Ayds or something similar. I think my Mom had me on the Cambridge diet too at one stage (my Mom was a bugger really because when I look back I was barely even chubby then).

As an adult I have tried the cabbage soup diet too. The only diets that ever really worked for me though were plain old calorie reduction and exercise. Back when I was 21 I lost 4 stone that way and it was quite a few years before it crept back on. So I am going to try and do the same again.

The latest Scientific (not made up but provable) information says that GI diets have some value so I will be taking some things from that and food scientists have proved that liquidy soups and stews do genuinly keep you going far longer than dry or moist meals, so I will incorporate those a lot more than I would have previousely. Ratio wise I am not going to be strict but protein rich foods seem to work for me very well so I will be eating more of them than carbs but not by huge margins.

The only books I will be refering to are my trusty Collins Gem's Calorie counter and Diet guide plus a Tesco's own brand GI guide book.

Exercise wise I used to swim an awful lot in my 20's but I just can't make it fit my lifestyle now so I am going to increase the use of my Bicycle for trips that would have previousely involved the car and I will also be investing in a reasonably high quality rowing machine. After studying various forums it seems that rowing gives you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes exercising the heart and muscles.
